Production of Chiral (S)-2-Phenyl-1-Propanol by Enantioselective Biocatalysts

Enantioselective production of (S)-2-phenyl-1-propanol is important as in order to be applied industry, a high degree optical purity required. Besides organocatalysts and metal complexes, biocatalysts can used for its synthesis their isolated form or whole-cell biocatalysts, both which have various advantages disadvantages. In this research, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, biocatalyst, recombinant horse-liver alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), an enzyme, were investigated terms activity, kinetics enantioselectivity. the case yeast, therate cofactor regeneration was twice that substrate conversion, moreover, biocatalyst cerevisiae characterised by substrate-limited low nantioselectivity. contrast, enzyme ADH exhibited biphasic rate-limiting step. The outstanding enantioselectivity renders it promising catalyst purpose synthesis.
